About St. Jude

St. Jude took on the fight against sickle cell disease (SCD) early in its history, and remains one of the leaders in the crusade to spare children the suffering this disease causes. In its relentless quest to decrease the suffering from sickle cell disease, St. Jude continues marshalling powerful technologies and highly skilled research faculty in its effort to meet this great challenge. And that challenge is great: SCD strikes about one in 350 African-Americans. St. Jude’s multi-pronged approach to sickle cell disease focuses significant scientific resources on this childhood disease. St. Jude now has one of the largest pediatric sickle cell programs in the country.
